NATO and defense spending.

Russia invaded Ukraine; that is a fact!

Ukraine is a sovereign country with the right to self-determination, also a fact.

Budapest Memorandum

According to the three memoranda,[6] Russia, the US and the UK confirmed their recognition of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine becoming parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and effectively removing all Soviet nuclear weapons from their soil, and that they agreed to the following:

  1. Respect the signatory’s independence and sovereignty in the existing borders (in accordance with the principles of the CSCE Final Act).[7]
  2. Refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of the signatories to the memorandum, and undertake that none of their weapons will ever be used against these countries, except in cases of self-defense or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.
  3. Refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by Ukraine, the Republic of Belarus and Kazakhstan of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.
  4. Seek immediate Security Council action to provide assistance to the signatory if they “should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used”.
  5. Not to use nuclear weapons against any non–nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, except in the case of an attack on themselves, their territories or dependent territories, their armed forces, or their allies, by such a state in association or alliance with a nuclear weapon state.[5]: 169–171 [8][9]
  6. Consult with one another if questions arise regarding those commitments.[10][11]

But despite that, when Ukraine wanted to have close trade relations with the EU, they were invaded.

Crimea was annexed, and the Russian military also invaded Ukraine in the Donbas.

The Minsk agreements were negotiated to stop the war in the Donbas.

In 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine again and started their battle to take Kyiv, but they did not succeed.

The Bucha massacre is a display of how brutal the start of the invasion was.

Russia has not succeeded in taking Kyiv, and the war is still ongoing.

Ukraine had not only been able to stop Russia’s advance but has also managed to liberate large parts that were occupied after the invasion.

Ukraine was able to do this because of the military aid and support they received.

But despite the US being a signatory of the Budapest Memorandum, since 2023 the republicans have been doing everything in their power to obstruct support for Ukraine.

After the US elections in 2024, there was a push to bring much-needed supplies from the US to Ukraine.

But now Donald Trump is withholding it, even threatening to cut off access to Starlink if he does not get his way.

What he wants is 500 billion in return for given aid to Ukraine, saying that the US has paid much more than Europe.

The 300 billion he mentions is false.

But even worse, despite the US being a signatory of the Budapest Memorandum, he plays with the lives of everyone who is defending Ukraine.

Naming Zelensky a dictator while being cozy with Putin, this is really unbelievable.

What are the real numbers?

See this page.

Europe surpasses the US.

Of course this isn’t about and should not be about who is given more aid; it should be an international effort to help Ukraine in their defense against the Russian war machine.

But 114 billion from the US is a lot less than the number that Trump mentions and also less than the 132 billion from Europe.

Also, Europe has 115 billion to be allocated versus the US’s 5 billion.

So not only is the 300 billion that Trump mentions a lie, but he is also giving everything away to Russia and trying to get his way with billions of raw materials by forcing Ukraine to sign a ridiculous deal.

Now on NATO.

The US obviously has a massive military spending budget of 3.5 percent of GDP.

In Europe spending is up, but many countries have yet to reach 2 percent, and the message is that it must even be north of 3 percent.

But do not be fooled; the US has 904 military bases around the world, and only 56 of them are NATO.

Those NATO bases are in Europe.

So a large part of the US military budget is for US military and political influence around the world.

The good is that Europe now is waking up to the fact that the US is not an ally but is instead quite hostile towards Europe.

For Europe, it is time to break the chain and stand on their own feet; rebuild and maintain a strong European defense.

Here you’ll find information about direct and indirect funding of NATO.

The enemy within.

Although it isn’t new, the biggest story of last week is obviously that Donald Trump was recruited by the KGB.

Already in 2015 there were stories circling about it in the media.

Politico published an article in 2017 about the hidden history of Trump’s first trip to Moscow.

With the latest revelation we now have three sources.

1. Alnur Mussayev, former Kazakh intelligence shief.

Archive material.

2. Yuri Shvets, former KGB.

3. Oleg Kalugin, former KGB general.

Also, the US media published articles on it, but they were swiftly removed and could not be found.

Byline Times has crashed due to a DDoS attack, and the original story blocked.

So we have multiple sources and an aggressive push to remove any articles on it in the US media.

Free speech? freedom of press?

Is the US actually being destroyed from within under the disguise of MAGA?

Free speech?

The world is changing fast.
Whatever happens in the US is a matter for the US citizens, the rule of law, and the political opposition.
I am sure many will have their thoughts about Europe and the EU, but that equally is a matter for the European citizens, rule of law, and political oppositions within the countries.

Through his speech in Munich, JD Vance attacked Europe and tried to lecture Europe on democracy and free speech.
But I think Europe knows quite well how democracy works; after all, they invented it.
Moreover, how the EU is set up with every member state having an equal voice and veto—despite country size and/or GDP—in the European Council is a good display of democracy.
It means that whatever treaty the EU has and creates through negotiation in the European Council—which consists of all PMs of member states—is one that comes about through a unanimous consensus.

People might fail to see and not know how the role of Ursula Von Der Leyen is very different from that of a US president.
The real power in the EU lies with the member states who, through the European Council, come up with a unified voice and decision.
Ursula von der Leyen is president of the European Commission, and the unified decision coming from the European Council is a task for the European Commission, which they have to create into a treaty.
When the treaty is created, it will be voted on in the EU parliament, reviewed by all member states, and if everything is ok, it will be implemented and become law.
The other task for the European Commission is to see to it that member states abide by those laws.
Quite democratic, if you ask me.

Another example is Brexit; every EU member state has the democratic and sovereign right to self-determination.

The US is very different; if a state wants to leave, it is not going to be possible without an amendment in the constitution, which requires the approval of the majority of the states.
The power lies with the president, and certainly Donald Trump has gained a lot of power.
Whether member states like it or not, whatever the Trump administration decides, they will have to adhere to it.
When it comes to free speech, in Europe they can criticize leaders and kings, they can name the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of Mexico, and they do not have to fear lawsuits when they publish unwanted articles or polls.
In Europe they also know how the notion of free speech can be weaponized by removing the ban on hate speech and eliminating fact-checking.

That is why the role of qualified and unbiased media is so important.

Something that is scarce in modern times because big money rules.
Facts, not Fox!

Books banned, words banned, scientific research on viruses like COVID banned.
How is that free speech? Yet Trump signed an E.O. to have free speech, and that is, of course, without the above, the banned books and words, and without education on gender, Black history in the US, and the equivalence of all people, no matter the race, nationality, belief, or color.
Free speech is, in reality, a tool to spread hate and misinformation, to divide, and to control.
For social media like Twitter, Facebook, and others, it would be easy—certainly with AI—to implement fact-checking as a means to combat the enormous spreading of misinformation and lies.
But oligarchs are, of course, not interested in factually informed and educated people.
For the rest of the world, it would be better if they seek homegrown alternatives.
No, JD Vance, his speech was a poor lecture, but he certainly has opened eyes all over the world because one thing is clear: the US, as we knew it, is no more.
It cannot be trusted anymore, is not an ally, and has slid into fascism.
